2006 Long Beach Grand Prix -- Pro Celebrity Race
Featuring Scion tC's With Progress Coilovers and Rear Sways
As the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach enters its 32nd year, the Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race hits a milestone with its 30th year in 2006. During this event Toyota donates $5,000 to “Racing for Kids” in the name of each participant and another $5,000 to the winning racer’s charity of choice and The Progress Group is proud to be a part of it. In the past 14 years, the Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race has generated more than 1.3 million dollars for children’s hospitals in Southern California.
The contestants in this charity event are behind the wheel of identically prepared, race-ready Scion tCs. This has been the first year that the Scions have been prepared for this event, and Toyota Motorsports specified custom-tuned Progress suspension in making the Scions a true performer on the track. Seeing as how the charity event took place on a 1.97 mile track with 11 turns for 10 laps, these cars were prepared to take plenty of punishment in the corners.
Some of the celebrities that have participated in this event and past races are John Elway, Bucky Lasek, Frankie Muniz, Dave Mirra, William Shatner, and many more. Frankie Muniz has been a champion at past Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race events and after having so much fun out on the track he has even thought about making a career change from actor to professional race car driver! Progress can’t take all of the credit for that, but we have definitely made these Scion cars a whole lot of fun out on the street circuit course of the Long Beach Grand Prix.
All of the Scion tCs were equipped with Progress Competition Coil-overs and a 22mm rear Anti-roll bar. These suspension components enable higher cornering speed, crisp turn-in, and a confidence inspiring road and track performance. These products are not made exclusively for the Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race cars, so that means that these very same products can be had for your very own Scion tC to transform it into a superb handling machine! Progress Suspension offers a wide range of suspension products to suit your needs, handmade in the USA.
